Cultivator recipe and why your crops will not grow
Craft a cultivator at a forge with 5 bronze and 5 core wood. If a planted crop will not grow, check its biome, spacing and open-sky requirements before planting more.
Craft first; upgrade for durability later
The cultivator becomes available after you have obtained bronze and core wood. Quality 1 is enough to cultivate soil and plant suitable seeds. Upgrades add durability: quality 2 costs 1 bronze and 1 core wood, then quality 3 costs 2 bronze and 2 core wood.
A new quality-3 cultivator therefore totals 8 bronze and 8 core wood. Higher quality is not a substitute for meeting a crop’s environmental requirements.
Read the crop status message
“Needs more room to grow” points to nearby obstacles or other plants. Hidden rocks under raised terrain can also cause trouble. “Needs an open sky” means an overhead structure is obstructing the plant. Moving a roof higher does not necessarily solve this.
“Can’t grow in this environment” points to biome restrictions. Different crops have different permitted biomes. Do not assume a crop will work somewhere merely because a different plant grows there.

Avoid a universal spacing promise
The community reference lists 1 metre spacing for many early crops, but some later crops need more space or special support. Leave extra room while diagnosing a failing patch and consult the crop-specific entry.
Your seed and food production cycle is a separate budget from the cultivator. The material planner calculates the tool only; it does not assume that you already have seeds, cultivated soil or an established farm.
