Valheim 1.0.15: terrain seams, lost item levels and safe recovery

THE SHORT ANSWER

Patch 1.0.15 fixes duplicated terrain that could reduce performance. Existing seams can be removed by deforming the terrain or walking in snow along them. Lost display-item levels require a backup recovery; the patch does not recreate data already lost during conversion.

Terrain duplication or lower performancePatch 1.0.15 fixes the duplication issue. It is not a guarantee that every performance problem has the same cause.
Visible seams after the terrain fixDeform terrain along the seams, or walk in the snow there. The announcement says the correction now persists after reloading.
Item levels or variants lost on display standsThe conversion bug was fixed in 1.0.12 for future conversions. Previously lost data needs recovery from a suitable backup.
Items incorrectly marked as cheatedThe September 18 announcement says a coordinated cross-platform fix is planned. Do not assume every incorrect marker was fixed in 1.0.15.

Choose a recovery method before replacing your world

First preserve copies of your current world, character and original pre-conversion backup. Work on copies so that a failed recovery does not overwrite your only remaining source. This is our precautionary recommendation, not a tested recovery of your save.

Choose a recovery method before replacing your world
MethodTrade-off
Restore the world backup made before the save-format conversionThe official workaround restores the older world state. All later progress and world changes are lost.
Copy the backup world and recover affected items through a characterThe official alternative is to enter a copy of the backup, put the affected items on a character, return to the current world and replace the damaged items. Preserve the originals before attempting this.

What else changed in this patch?

  • Both Jotun Warrior types can drop medium and heavy Deep North armor moulds, increasing availability.
  • Writhan spawning was increased in frequency and coverage.
  • The patch also adjusts markings, naming and stacking for items affected by developer commands when the bypass is enabled. This is separate from the incorrectly flagged-item fix described as upcoming.

Platform rollout and limits

The September 18 notes say deployment to every platform may take a few days while crossplay remains functional. Check the build shown by your own client and server; this historical note does not prove every platform is updated today.

If your backup is missing or the workaround does not match your situation, follow the support channel linked by Iron Gate. We have not tested your save, console storage flow or modded configuration.
