Valheim 1.0 mod compatibility: what to check before updating
Iron Gate does not guarantee mod compatibility with 1.0. Check the mod author’s supported game version and dependencies before loading an important modded save.
A game update is not a mod compatibility test
The official FAQ says mod authors need time to update their work and that the developer cannot guarantee mods will function. A mod manager reporting an installed version is not the same as an author confirming support for your current game build.
The FAQ also says there is no official mod support on PC, no console mod support for the 1.0 release, and no Steam Workshop featured. Those are the developer’s statements; they are not a list of compatible third-party mods.
Before loading a valuable save
- Back up world and character files separately from the live save location.
- Record the current game build and installed mod versions.
- Read compatibility notes from each mod author and its dependencies.
- Check whether the server and clients need matching mods.
- Follow the mod author’s removal or migration instructions, especially for mods that add persistent items or structures.
Diagnose carefully
If a modded setup stops working, avoid repeatedly changing several things at once. Document the failure and follow the relevant mod’s support instructions. Test changes on an appropriate backup or separate test world where possible.
This is a preparation checklist, not a promise that removing a mod is safe for every world. Our crafting planner uses published base-game recipes and does not apply modded costs. If your game shows different quantities, use the values in your own game.
